After 65′

The Responsive Eye (Museum of Modern Art New York 1965) was the first major international survey of Op Art. Often dismissed as gimmickry, Op Art challenged viewers to consider the nature of visual experience, perception and reality. Pattern and repetition were important strategies used to create complex and paradoxical spaces. It is in this black and white context – an illusory space that draws attention to how vision functions – that my portraits (painted by miniaturists from Udaipur India) face each other.
